EP.65 Jerrod Downey on The Art of Conversation, Extending Your Knowledge and Engaging In Authentic Dialogue – Part One

Conversations are so important. They’re the best way we can learn new information, broadening our understanding and gaining a fresh insight into the mechanics of something that doesn’t necessarily line up with our own views or industry.

Each Wednesday, join me, Peter Finn, managing director of FACE Contracting, as I navigate the ups and downs of the mining industry with forward-thinking professionals from all walks of life. If you’re involved in the mining industry in any way – whether you’re a lifer or a high-school student looking to make the leap – Full Production is the podcast for you.

In this episode we are joined by the Canadian marketing mogul and podcast host, Jerrod Downey. Jerrod is the president of The Crownsmen Partners, and host of the incredibly well produced podcast, The Crownsmen. Originally from a small, remote town in rural Canada, Jerrod has always had a connection with the mining industry, starting within the family business maintaining and cleaning mining equipment. Now, he is a self-proclaimed entrepreneur, investor, writer, manager, marketer, humanitarian (and saxophone player), who sits at the head of The Crownsmen.

The conversation ran so deep, we’ve had to split this episode into two parts. In part one, we covered a lot of ground in regard to initiating good conversations and keeping things flowing. We also volley back and forth about our own experiences within the industry from a podcasting and mining point of view.

We also chat about:

  • The art of conversation
  • The psychology of our guests
  • Reversing the roles – getting interviewed as an interviewer
  • Being prepared and having information at your fingertips
  • Avoiding politics
  • The improvements in mining culture
  • Taking the Larry King approach – stifling your personal opinions
  • Keeping it real and avoiding over editing
  • Jerrod’s background and how he came to work in the industry
  • What today’s youth is bringing to the table
  • Jerrod and Peter’s parallel stories
